This project, which is currently at market testing stage, comprises a new build two storey classroom wing and gym hall, a new dining hall extension and alterations/refurbishment to parts of the existing building. The brief requires the new classroom wing to be to Passivhaus standard, with the superstructure comprising a CLT frame supported on a suspended concrete ground floor. The classroom wing is to be connected to the existing building via a short single storey link corridor of similar construction. The dining hall extension is to be of steel framed construction, with a ground bearing floor slab. Alterations to the existing building include reconfiguration of underbuilding drainage to suit new kitchen requirements, along with minor downtakings. Whilst the existing building is founded on vibro-improved ground, we undertook additional site investigation works which demonstrated that traditional shallow foundations would be adequate for the new constructions, thus eliminating the need for further ground improvement works. The external works comprise additional parking arrangements, and significant reconfiguration of large playground areas and associated drainage. Geo-environmental works will include gas protection measures and validation of imported soils.
