John Smith Business Park, Kirkcaldy

This three storey building has a steel frame with composite in-situ concrete and metal deck flooring.  Beams span clear from front to rear to provide a column free office space.  The primary beams were pre-cambered to cater for deflections over longer spans and minimise steel wrights.

The frame is cross-braced for stability with bracing located at cores to avoid intrusion into office spaces.

External walls to offices are formed in timber stud work, with loadbearing brickwork to cores.  Foundations for columns are mass concrete pads to the firm clay bearing stratum.  Floor slabs have edge thickenings to support the external skin of blockwork and avoid deep trenchfill for this lightly loaded element.

External works incorporated a rainwater harvesting tank, porous paving to car parks and SUDS pond.
